Tips for Staying Cool

Cucumber Water

Cucumbers contain natural electrolytes that help to keep your body cool and hydrated. Skip the sugary sports drinks and instead try making your own hydration solution. Start with Spring or Alkaline water, never tap. Cut your organic cucumber into thin slices, about half the cucumber will do for a full pitcher of water. Try adding lemon slices or fresh mint for extra flavor and cooling effects. Essential oils may be substituted for fresh mint or lemon.

Peppermint has powerful natural cooling effects. Some ideas for using mint would be to add fresh mint leaves or a few drops of Peppermint Oil to your water. You can also make a Mint Spritz to spray your overheated skin by adding a few drops of oil to a glass spray bottle. Applying a diluted peppermint oil to the back of your neck will also help keep you cool in the heat.

Sitali Breath work

Another idea for regulating body temperature is to use your breath. Sitali breath is a technique used by yogis to cool the body and reduce energy in the Solar Plexus Chakra. To do this practice, roll your tongue like a straw, If you cannot roll your tongue due to genetics, you may instead purse your lips into a tight circle. Sip breath in through the straw of your tongue, or tight aperture of your lips. Breath in slowly and intentionally, feeling the cool air traveling down your throat and filling your lungs. Pull your tongue back in and gently exhale through the nose. Continue this practice for 2-5 minutes, or as long as it takes to cool down.
