Imbolc Crafting

Two popular ways to honor the return of Brigid: Candle Wheels and Brigid's Cross

The Candle Wheel is usually included on the altar for Imbolc and burned the night of February 1st . The eight candles represent the 8 Sabbats and the Wheel of the Year. To make a Candle Wheel you will need the following:

-Plasticine for the circle, preferably white or light blue. (for something more permanent you can use a willow ring)

-4 white birthday or small candles

-4 light blue birthday or small candles

-Rosemary, leaves and greenery/foliage from your yard or local park.

-small white flowers

-ribbons of white, light blue, green and/or yellow (optional)

-small crystals: rose quartz, selenite, moonstone, pale amethyst

To create the ring, roll the plasticine out into about a 2" thick rope. Squeeze and smooth the two ends together to make a circle. Place the ring on a plate or cake board. Place the eight candles on the wheel with equal spacing, alternating colors.

Decorate with the flowers and foliage. Add ribbons, crystals, or whatever your intuition leads you to use.

The Brigid's Cross is a simple weaving project traditionally using Irish Rushes. Since these are hard to find you can substitute straw, plastic or paper drinking straws, or pipe cleaners. Be creative!

This will be my first year making the Brigid's Cross so I have yet to film a DIY video. Please refer to the YouTube Video I have shared below:
