Determining Your Own Value

Updated: Dec 17, 2018

How do we set a price for ourselves and our services?

As healers, the topic of rates and what to charge for our services is “uncomfortable” and difficult to navigate. Our intention is to help people heal and that perspective can sometimes get in the way of determining a fair price for yourself and your services. We would like to live in a world of rainbows and unicorns where all things are free and all people are good. But……we don’t. We live in a world where money is necessary, where the exchange of goods and services keeps our economy, as well as our lives, going.

When facing this tedious and emotional process, one must set emotion aside and instead think from a business mind. Find out what other people are charging for similar services to what you provide. Ask a friend or mentor how they arrived at their prices. Spend some time in meditation and be open to receiving the amount from your guides. We don't intentionally include or exclude any type of client. Rather, we attract the clients we need to go forward in our path as Healers by location, price or our modality. Our energy dictates who comes to us; if we are desperate for money, then we receive clients who are also desperate, either to get a cheap rate or immediate healing. If someone truly wants what we offer, they will find the funds. That is the truth in the situation.

Most importantly, stand your ground and do not feel obligated to justify your rates to customers. It is easy to get bullied into lowering your price when comparing yourself to others. Once you have decided upon and, more importantly, posted a price-stick to it! When a client comes to me with a personal inability to afford an event of mine, I always work with them. I respect their courage in asking for what they need. Adversely, I find fault in suggesting that I have priced myself too high. As self-employed entrepreneurs, our business is an extension of our personality. The service I provide you is a little piece of me. Much time and deliberation have been dedicated to deciding the rate I have set for myself. By criticizing this rate, silly as it sounds, you are criticizing me and what I think of myself.

Aside from the emotional layer of this topic, successful people will tell you to determine your own value and set it high! Why sell yourself short? Having a higher rate usually means having a smaller client load which equates to more time and personal attention devoted to your clients. All this allows for providing the best service you can to your clients and being fully present and available during your sessions.

The icing on the cake here is that we are an example to our students and clients. By determining our own value and setting the bar high, we challenge them to do the same. By standing in our light and rising to the top, we give them courage to follow our lead. Earn your right to determine your own value by becoming the best YOU, you can be, and don’t let anyone take it away from you.
